1-Day Classes
Class: “Celestial Orbs” Decorative spheres with blended colors and unexpected textures. This is an innovative exploration of dimensional feltmaking with an emphasis on color, texture, and embellishment techniques. Expect to make 1 orb approximately 4" in diameter.
Class: “Dream Fish” Create a beautiful felt “Dream Fish” that adds a new dimension to sculpting in this wonderful medium. Your fish will be approximately 5"-6" long. Dyed merino wool is embellished with paint, beads and sinuous silk paper fins that you’ll also learn to make.
Class: “Origami Felted Purse” Create a beautiful purse using traditional Scandinavian feltmaking techniques and unique ways of folding and shaping in origami style. Explore hand embellishment techniques with beads, stitching and accents to produce a personal touch. Finished size 5"x7".
2-Day Class or 3-day Class
Class: “Fantasy Figures" Trolls, creatures, elves, caricatures, whatever you call these whimsical characters, you’ll enjoy creating a one-of-a-kind felted figure from your imagination. Each student will have the opportunity to play with fiber and explore sculptural feltmaking. Most of all it’s fun to watch individual creations emerge.
Class: “Paidric McCallum, Leprechaun” Here’s your opportunity to create a wonderful “Wee character” in sculptural felt. This class combines dimensional wet feltmaking techniques with a wire armature to create an 8-inch posable figure. Day 1 will focus on developing the figure. Day 2 will be devoted to adding details and costuming. You will learn about material selection and manipulation and advanced felt needling techniques. Note: Requires pre-class work.
3-Day Classes
Class: “Eggman” Who really was the Eggman? Create your own! The class features traditional feltmaking techniques (wool, soap, water), and felt needle sculpting combined with cloth arms, hands and legs to create a 12" seated figure. Day 1 will focus on developing the “Eggman’s” body with facial features. Days 2 and 3 will be devoted to refining the character and adding the arms, legs and sewn felt hands. You will learn about material selection and manipulation and advanced felt needling techniques. Most students will finish the figure. Students will receive costuming patterns. We will be discussing costuming options so students can finish the costuming on their own.
Class: “Doppelganger Delight” Doppelganger refers to a twin, a double, or mirror image. Maybe it’s the other side of your self. Metaphysically speaking of course. In this class, you’ll make a unique felt hat that literally sports a personality all its own. Using the “hat on a ball” technique originally developed by feltmaker Beth Bede, you will create a jaunty chapeau that captures your style. You’ll learn how to create a felt face of your choosing and incorporate it into a fashion accessory that speaks volumes about your creativity. elinor peace bailey once commissioned a flamboyant hat with a special face. Here’s your chance to make one of your own. This is a great introduction to felt hat making and dimensional character design. In addition to learning traditional wet felting techniques, facial development and color techniques, you will explore shaping and design.
